Hello my darlings,

Moonwater…what is it and how do we use it?

If you are reading this, I am thinking you must have at least heard of moonwater. Even if you haven’t, I am here to teach you what it is, how to make it, and how we use it. The ritual of making moonwater is a beloved practice by many spiritual people who understand, honor, and respect the power of the moon.

Moonwater Intention Setting

What is Moonwater?

Moonwater is water, typically purified water that is set out under the moon to “charge” in the energy specific to the phase the moon is in and is used to enhance intentions.

The best comparison I can make for you is like charging a battery. Your water will carry the energy of the moon after sitting overnight under the night sky. Each phase of the moon has different metaphysical powers to influence your intentions.

For instance, if you want to manifest your desires, you would want to charge your water under the energy of the New Moon. As it grows in phases into the Full Moon, it is symbolic of your desires coming to fruition. If you want to banish with your Moon Water, you would want to use the energy of the Full Moon. As its light diminishes from full to the darkness of the New Moon, it symbolizes the disappearance of whatever it is you desire to banish.

Science behind Moonwater

As much as I love to purely believe in magic, I would also like to assure you there is actually science behind making Moonwater.

The power of the moon over water can be most prominently seen with the ebb and flow of the tides. The tides fluctuate with the cycle of the moon due to the pull of gravity from the moon. While this energy affects all of earth, we can see it the most with water because of its fluid nature. Check out this comprehensive book on the tides and the moon.

Many healthcare workers will swear to you that the Full Moon causes a strange rise in the chaotic and crazy behaviors of people, leading to a rise in activity in hospitals and other medical facilities.

"Finally, someone has written a comprehensive, easily readable explanation of the tides on earth that is both simple enough for students and solid enough for their professors."

The Effect of Consciousness on Moonwater

I recommend researching & learning about the studies of Dr. Masaru Emoto, his New York Times Best Seller is a good place to start. Dr. Emoto experimented with the effect of consciousness on water. Within these studies, he found that our consciousness affects water on a microscopic level, creating different structures in the water depending on the intentions “infused” into the water.

For example: his studies found that if one spoke to water in words of kindness, peace and love – this created delicate, intricate, crystiline structures within the cellular make up of the water, almost appearing like snowflakes. When words or even tone that presented as negative, words of hate or a tone of anger – the microscopic structures appeared chaotic and fragmented, ugly. His work is highly debated but also deeply rooted in many different cultural and historical beliefs about the behavior and memory of water, such as old wives tales, European folklore, Lakota tradition, and even Holy Water in the Catholic faith.

How to Make Moonwater

#1. Obtain a vessel. In truth, you can use any vessel. I highly recommend one that has a lid so you can make sure the water doesn’t become contaminated throughout the night. It should be clear so it can fully charge with the energy of the moon. Also, because I consider making moon water to be a sacred ritual, I prefer to have a dedicated decanter to store my moon water. Check out these beautiful decanters I have available on Etsy.

#2. Speak Your Intentions. As I said above, according to the studies of Dr. Emoto, your consciousness has an effect on water. So what you speak to your water, as crazy as it sounds, actually changes the structure of the water. If you want to manifest beautiful skin, speak it to your water. Or if you want to banish poor health, you should speak this to your water.

#3. Place Your Water Under The Moon. I place mine outside, directly exposed to the energy of the moon. However you can place in a windowsill, as long as your vessel is fully exposed to the moon.

How to Use Moonwater

For internal use: The most common way to use moonwater is by drinking it therefore absorbing the intention and energy of the moon the water was charged under. As I said before different phases have different effects, but the specific full moon of the year also makes a difference. For example, the Wolf Moon in January will have a much different effect than the Strawberry Moon in June. To learn more about the different moons I highly recommend my Full Moon Rituals Download (it comes free with your purchase of a decanter) which includes a ritual and a description of the power behind each full moon of the year.

For beauty: Use your moonwater topically, using it to cleanse your face or mixing it with your skincare products. Or even use your moonwater to make a powerful toner or beauty elixir.

For spell work: store in your beautiful decanter and display on your altar, in this way you will always have powerful moonwater to add into your rituals and spells as needed. I personally love using it to enhance my bath rituals.

Final Tips for Making Moonwater

#2. New Moon for Banishing

#3. Always use pure, drinkable water

#4. Add a crystal to enhance the power of your moonwater (you receive a complimentary crystal with one of my decanters)

#5. Always cleanse your vessel before using, both for bacteria and for negative energy. (Soap for bacteria, sacred smoke for negative energy).
